Carl Howie Center for Science, Art and Theology The Institute for Reformed Theology The Reformed tradition includes churches that trace their theological heritage from scripture through their historic confessions, and church leaders who have sought to interpret the Bible for the world. Reformed churches are characterized by a commitment to vigorous engagement between the church and the world. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), which Union-PSCE serves, is a church in the Reformed communion. Central to the Institute’s program are annual colloquies that address constructive questions for Christian-ity in the twenty-first century. The colloquies engage professors, ministers, and students in the task of relating theology and contemporary life. Members of the Institute’s Board of Directors are: B. A. Gerrish, retired distinguished service professor of theology; Dawn DeVries, John Newton Thomas Professor of Systematic Theology; Douglas Ottati, M. E. Pemberton Professor of Theology; Mark Valeri, E. T. Thompson Professor of Church History; and Louis Weeks, professor of historical theology and Union-PSCE’s president. Interpretation Each quarterly issue contains articles, exposition of biblical passages, and book reviews written by scholars and pastors of international reputation. Most of the issues are thematic, exploring in-depth a particular subject or biblical book. Interpretation is also available by online subscription, offering access to every issue published since 1947. The co-editors of Interpretation are Samuel E. Balentine, Union-PSCE Professor of Old Testament and James A. Brashler, Professor of Bible. Associate editors are E. Carson Brisson, associate professor of biblical languages at Union-PSCE, and Frances Taylor Gench, the Herbert Worth and Annie H. Jackson Professor of Biblical Interpretation.
