Educators Certification Initiative

The First Step  to Educator Certification Starts Here

Union-PSCE is pleased to announce a new format of courses for educator certification in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Beginning in Summer 2008, Union-PSCE will offer a two-year cycle of courses needed for Educator Certification in the PC(USA). The courses will be offered within the Extended Campus Program at Union-PSCE.

All courses offered in the two-year certification cycle are graduate courses eligible for transfer into the Master of Arts in Christian Education degree at Union-PSCE.

Admission Information

Extended Campus Program

The Extended Campus Program follows the following format:

  1. Students complete approximately six weeks of independent study in their homes in preparation for on-campus study. A course syllabus guides their reading and other assignments. E-mail and online interaction with professors or other students is required.

    • At-home study for Summer sessions begins in April.
    • At-home study for Winter sessions begins in October.
  2. During the on-campus sessions, students attend classes in Richmond for approximately ten days. They join in worship, meals, and informal interaction with the seminary community. Students make full use of the William Smith Morton Library.

  3. For approximately five weeks following the end of the on-campus session, students may be assigned summary projects and papers that link their course work to the life of congregations and specific areas of ministry.
